PRIVACY NOTICE
Privacy by default
Lots of businesses tell you how much they care about your privacy, then go on to set out all the ways that they don’t. I do care — as much as I care about my own privacy — so my approach may be summed up as: privacy by default.
This website
You may access my website in its entirety without disclosing any personal data whatever. (“Personal data” means information relating to a living individual who can be identified from that information, either directly or indirectly. A name, location data, an email address or an online identifier such as a username are all examples of personal data.)
Big Brother is NOT watching you
My website does not by itself collect any personal data about you. Specifically:
- No cookies or tracking scripts. My website doesn’t use any cookies at all; nor does it use any scripts designed to track the websites you visit.
- No analytics or social media buttons. My website doesn’t use analytics software or native social media “like” or “share” buttons, which also build profiles of your internet activity.
- No logins or personalisation. You don’t need to create a user account to access any part of my website, and the content you find when visiting the site is exactly the same as found by any other visitor to the site.
Secure data transfer
My website is served over HTTPS, which means that all data travelling between your web browser and my web server is encrypted. Your ISP may still be able to see that you are loading files from this site, but not their content. This also protects against third parties intercepting data, as can happen if you are browsing using public WiFi; and prevents ISPs injecting advertisements or code into this site. In other words, what you see when browsing this site is exactly what I put there, nothing more and nothing less.
Beyond the website
If you decide to contact me and you divulge personal data, obviously you are doing so of your own volition and your consent is implicit. If you are referred to me by another of my clients or contacts, I will protect your personal data in exactly the same way as if you gave it to me directly. In any case:
- I abide by the data protection principles set out in the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- I limit the personal data I keep to essential contact information: at most, your name, address, email address, telephone number and the organisation you work for.
- I’ll only use this information to respond to your enquiry, and for no other purpose.
- I won’t pass your personal data to any third party, unless I’m forced to by law.
- I’ll store your personal data securely on computers or devices to which only I have access by means of robust password or biometric authentication. I won’t store your personal data on third-party services or outside of the EEA.
- If no commercial relationship develops and there is no further communication between us after a period of three months, I’ll erase or destroy your data.
If you go on to do business with me:
- I’ll use your personal data to keep in touch with you. If in the course of our business it becomes necessary to pass any of your data to a third party — for example, if you want me to register a domain name on your behalf — I won’t do so without your full knowledge and consent.
- I’ll keep your personal data for as long as we are doing business together, and for up to two years thereafter in case we should reactivate our business relationship.
- If you have commissioned me to do work for you as an individual rather than as a business or other organisation, then it is possible that elements of personal data may appear on invoices issued to you and in my accounting records, which I need to keep for seven years for audit purposes.
Questions?
If you have any questions about this privacy policy or my use of your personal data, please email or write to me at the address on the Home page.
Policy changes
If I make any changes to my privacy policy, I will update this Privacy Notice accordingly and the changes will take effect on the date I publish it on this website.
